For those of you who are co-owners, when did realize you’d found your business partner? How did it progress to the point of agreeing to go into business together?

I’m in the early stages of building my business. I know what it is, where I want it to go, and how to get there. And things are really starting to move.

I recently reached out to someone that I knew from a previous job with a work offer on an independent contractor basis. They are not currently employed and are only freelancing. The entire experience of working with this person is great – we work very well together. They are very intelligent and very driven to build great things. They have qualities that I’m lacking in and vice-versa. They’ve expressed they’d like to continue working with me.

I’m gonna get a little personal, so I hope this is ok here.

In the beginning I didn’t foresee wanting to co-own, but my gut is telling me that going into business with this person, combining our resources and capabilities, could be a very good move for not just me, but both of us.

I don’t have any feelings of hesitation about actually doing this, only hesitation about bringing it up because I’m afraid they might not be interested in going into business together and it would negatively impact the relationship.

Am I crazy or is this how you felt when you realized you found your business partner(s)?
